If you want to lose weight, it’s not enough to go to the weight room to work those abs, thighs and triceps. You need to watch what you eat. Cut down on the calories,  walk away from those cakes and cookies and focus on fat-fighting foods.

Don’t think you need to go to the public library to research all of this. Webmd has made it easy for you. They’ve compiled a slide-show showing 27 goodies, in all different varieties, than can help you trim down.

During this informative slide show, sports nutritionist Leslie Bonci reveals that greek yogurt is good for you because it’s rich in protein and the body burns more calories digesting protein than carbohydrates. You’ll also learn that eggs, despite the high calorie count, can keep you more satisfied in the morning because they’re also full of protein (if you have cholesterol problems, check with your doctor). Other fat-burning foods include green tea, quinoa, berries, soup and nuts. A reminder about nuts:  Bonci suggests nuts in a shell, the ones that take you time to open. Nuts can be full of protein, fiber and heart-healthy fats.

Enjoy these foods, keep focusing on your exercises, and if you’re not slim by Labor Day, you can get a head start on next summer!
