When I go to the mall, I always park in the same place…quite a distance from the mall entrance. I do this for two reasons: First, I want to know where my car is; I don’t want to waste a half-hour walking up each row, in search of my vehicle. Also, I get a little more exercise.

Healthday has an article that suggests that a 6 to 9-mile walk each week is not only good for your health, but could help cut down cognitive decline in older men and women.  The study, whose lead author is Kirk I. Erickson, an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Pittsburgh, says walking (physical activity) could help protect against brain shrinkage.

So try to walk those few extra steps at the mall. While you’re at it, climb the steps instead of taking the escalator.
