As I glance over at my sleeping cat, who is in the chair next to me,  I begin to understand what the two of us have in common. We love a good nap. Cats sleep in short shifts throughout the day. A burst of feline activity is  followed closely by a cat nap.  For humans, sleep seems more of a discipline. We need to carve out an eight-hour (approximate) period of sleep each day.

Why do animals sleep? It’s a great mystery, according to the journal Science:

Sleep is no mystery to me. After I exercise for 30 to 45 minutes, work my eight-hour day job, then write and do prep work for this blog, I am tired, and more than ready for a long and satisfying snooze.
