Consider the humble almond. Once upon a time, I would love to devour macadamia nuts. As a kid, nothing hit the spot like canned peanuts or mixed nuts. Now that I am older, and watching my weight, I’ve discovered that raw almonds are both nutritious and inexpensive. Yes, I’ve enjoyed roasted, salted and flavored almonds, but the raw variety will grow on you…if you give them a chance. Almonds aren’t the only nutritious, low-cost snack.
